Grading Guide
Litho uses a six-tier condition scale modeled after the established standards used by concert poster collectors. Accurate grading protects buyers and builds seller trust.
Mint
Flawless. Never displayed, unrolled, or handled. Absolutely no defects of any kind — no pinholes, fold lines, creases, tears, stains, or fading. Still in original packaging if applicable.
Near Mint
Nearly perfect. May show only the most minute imperfections upon very close inspection — a single tiny pinhole or extremely faint handling crease. Colors are rich and paper is flat and crisp.
Very Good Plus
Minor signs of handling or display. May have a few small pinholes, a very light surface crease, or minor corner wear. Colors remain vivid and the overall impression is excellent.
Very Good
Clearly used but well cared-for. Pinholes from display, light fold lines along edges, or minor soiling may be present. No major tears or significant color loss. Still display-worthy.
Good
Shows obvious wear. May have fold lines, moderate creasing, small tears, tape remnants, or noticeable soiling. Artwork is intact but condition is noticeably compromised.
Poor
Heavy damage. Large tears, significant water damage, major fading, heavy creasing, or extensive staining. Collectible for its rarity only; display quality is severely diminished.
Grading Tips
Examine in good light
Rake light across the poster at an angle to reveal surface creases and pinholes that are invisible head-on.
Check all four corners
Corners are the first place wear shows up — blunting, creasing, or moisture damage often starts there.
Inspect under UV
A blacklight reveals old tape residue, previous repairs, and paper brighteners that indicate restoration.
Grade conservatively
When in doubt, grade one step lower. Buyers prefer a pleasant surprise over a disappointing one. Accurate grading builds your seller reputation.
